Partnership with the
GRAND RAPIDS SLED WINGS
Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital’s Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports Department and the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation partner to offer the Sled Wings hockey program to athletes with physical disabilities. The program consists of an adult and junior team.
Each season the Sled Wings and Jr. Sled Wings travel throughout the United States to compete in tournaments. Back-to-back weekly practices are held at the Griffin’s Icehouse for both teams on Saturday mornings. Every winter, the Sled Wings hosts a home tournament, “Griff’s Sled Hockey Classic” to help the program raise money. Along with other fundraising opportunities, the Sled Wings also participate in an annual game against the Grand Rapid’s Griffins (AHL affiliate to the Detroit Red Wings) where the Griffins play in sleds against the Sled Wings.
